Rain

I don't know why people hate the rain. I personally love it. The way it smells in the air. The way it smells as it settles on the grass and the trees. The way it feels as the sits on your skin. The way your skin looks with a mist of water drops all over it and the pinkish tink sets into your cheeks and nose. The crispness it leaves in the air. The way you know it's cleaning away all the dirt we have left around. I feel like it cleans away all the bad karma people are putting out and leaving a clean slate to try again. Whenever it rains I know that it's a good day because it makes me smile. It's that simple.

I wish i was in NYC

You can't handle the truth!

You can't handle the truth!: "

The Naked Truth, a photographic & video survey of 50 years of Voyeurism, Nudity and Sex, curated by Ruben Natal-San Miguel opened today at the housprojects gallery on Howard Street, Soho, NYC.
There are the classic couplings of Bert Stern & Marilyn Monroe, David La Chapelle & Amanda Lepore and Herb Ritts & Madonna. But some of the most powerful images are from artists I was less familiar with, like Marla ..."

Random post - Courtney Love on The View

WTF was Courtney Love doing on The View. I mean for starters, we are talking The View. Granted I am admitting I watched it but how could i not when I saw the preview of her on the show wearing a white button down shirt, black pants and silver sateen shoes. She was obviously paying tribute to the main voice of The View, Barbara Walters with her very conservative hairdo. Not what I was expecting and honestly a bit disappointed. Did I mention the bifocals she had hanging from her shirt....

Eau de Vie

I stumbled on Eau de Vie at the Kirkland Hotel in Darlinghust this week. Had I not heard about Eau de Vie through my friend Sloan, I would have most likely would just keep walking past, I was doubtful of it’s existence even as I walked through the deserted lobby. However, as I pulled back the massive black doors I was welcomed to the comforting sound of Sarah Vaughn, shakers shaking and the low rumble of conversation.

Eau de Vie’s décor is dark wood, leather and velvet. It has all the right makings of a smoking lounge and while my preferred seating at the bar is minimal and somewhat crowded with shakers and other collectable bar memorabilia, behind the bar is what really mattered; premium liquor and inspired bartenders.

After perusing the menu I settled on the Hendricks Tea Party, a light concoction of Hendrick’s cucumber and rose petal infused gin, shaken with berry infused black tea, fresh orange and basil, presented in a tea cup martini glass (nice touch). It was good, but not as good as the Grounds for Divorce! Grounds for Divorce named after a song by Elbow and an award winning cocktail at the Australian Whiskey Leg of the 2009 World Class Competition. A delicious combination of Talisker whiskey, walnut liquor and crème de cacao served with a top of James Squire porter presented in an ice filled beer bottle. Wow!

The eight page menu is sure to have something for everyone and while I will be back to consume more very soon, I can’t help but wonder if screwed myself by not saving the best for last.

Yesterday I was at Benefit Eyebrow Bar at the Myers getting my eyebrows done. Yes I know vain.

Anyways.. The girl that did my eyebrows immediately sensed that I was not from Australia, exclaiming "That's not an Australian accent" which I agreed it wasn't and let her know I was from Canada. She asked me a few questions about why I was here ex cetera, ex cetera and then of course we got on to the weather. I let her know that yes it was colder in Canada but not that cold. Then she said something that absolutely floored me. "So are all the people in Canada obese?" I looked at her confused, "No, why?" and she responded "Well it's like England, cold all the time, and aren't the people in London all obese too because all they eat is comfort food?"

I really wanted to go out and buy her a book, I can't believe anyone is truly that ignorant.

God do I love the Rock.

I had the pleasure of seeing Them Crooked Vultures last night, courtesy of my friend Caroline and it rocked. Rocked I say.

The one thing I am still amazed by in Sydney is the time limit they put on Rock Shows. On the occasions that I have attended a show at the Horton Pavilion, the bad plays for approximately 45 minutes, leave the stage and depending on the time you may or may not get an encore. For example, I saw the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs a few weeks back and they played for the 45 minutes and did come back for an encore but it was only 2 songs long. Not much of an encore in my opinion and when I thought that we would be able to woo them back with applause for a second encore, the venue put up the lights, signaling that the show was indeed over and we were quickly usher out by the security staff.Last evening, Them Crooked Vultures played for a much longer time, in fact they played for 2 hours, however when they left the stage, the lights immediately went up and there was no encore.

I have questioned my friends here in Sydney and this is just the way it works. The venue calls the shots and there is a time limit to how long the band can play for and apparently that is 11pm.

Personally, I don't think it's very Rock to give Rock and Roll a curfew!

Bad bad me. Again, I have procrastinated to a point of embarrassment. It's been so long that i have changed my hair color from red to black and it's no longer NEWS. I apologize to my one reader! ;)

It's 2010 and the world is my oyster. By that I mean, I have am unemployed and have my days to fill doing only things for me. So this is what I usually do with my oysterous (I know it's not a word) day.

I get up and turn on the coffee machine, check my emails and Facebook, turn on Eoin Finn for a bit of yoga to stretch my "getting older by the minute" body. When the DVD hits the relaxation section, my brain begins to furiously spin, I lay there on the mat, until I hit my breaking point and have to get up, because laying around is useless. I fear if any true yogi's read this I will hexed for being a non conformist and not taking the time to focus on meditation.

Then I go check my email and Facebook again. Hmmm nothing new, a bit of spam maybe but usually just the same email in my spam box from Mary and do I remember her. No I don't and I wonder if she knows that I am a straight woman and not interested in meeting up with her hot and sexy self. Facebook, checking who's birthdays are today and sending sweet little messages.

I have a little chat with my boyfriend to break up his day and mine, nothing new since he left this morning. Geez time go so fast but nothing ever happens. So, I move onto the career pages. Wouldn't it be nice if they were all the same or at least they offered similar sort mechanisms. How are you supposed to tell which posting is new when they only update the new ones every week and I check every day. How are you supposed to stay on top of the job market. Thanks free career listings, for nothing. Oh wait I like you, you might have a job for me.

After searching the job pages, I find myself slightly peckish so I grab some sandwich meat and a yogurt with granola to eat. I realize as I start to eat, that the day is more than half way over and I have nothing to show for it. Oh well there is always tomorrow!
